Buying Lighting With a Purpose
Out of all my friends, I know quite a few impulsive buyers! When they are shopping at Lowe’s or Home Depot and see something nice, they instantly start putting all these products in their basket and don’t look back. That is exactly what you shouldn’t be doing. When you are looking for a new piece for your house, whether it is a light or it’s just a piece of furniture, you need to shop with a purpose. So when you are headed into the store, you need to know what you are looking for. You need to look at the design of your home and start getting ideas on what would fit your design, and would look good.
What Type of Light are You Looking For?
As I said before, you need to know what you want.
So, when you are looking at Allen & Roth lights you need to know if you are looking for a chandelier or are you looking for some more simple interior lighting? Once you know this, you can start narrowing down your search.
Generally, chandeliers either are placed above the dining room table to provide a central light that is also a beauty in its own light or in a tall ceiling room to give the room a cozy filling while having a majestic centerpiece. So, obviously, a regular interior light would not do the room justice in place of a chandelier.
Along with that, a regular interior hanging or mounted light is good to provide light to a regular room or especially down a hallway. Allen Roth really strives on these interior lights, as this was their bread and butter.
Know Your Wattage
In the previous section, we talked about knowing what type of light you really needed. Well know we need to talk about lighting wattage, and what’s the best for you. Wattage is really important for lights as it determines how bright and translucent a lighting fixture is. Obviously, this is important in a home setting because it will determine if a light fully engulfs a room in light or if there are still shadows in the room.
For example, generally, a good number for an incandescent light bulb is around 100 watts. If you have two bulbs that each should be at least 60 watts. And so on. This is enough to really illuminate the room without being too much.
For a fluorescent light bulb (also known as CFL – compact fluorescent light), the wattage range should be somewhere around 40 watts. This is because CFLs consume less power than regular incandescent light bulbs.

What is Eco-Friendly Lighting?
Lighting that is eco-friendly doesn’t have to be hard to come by. Recycled, natural or reused textiles can make eco-friendly lighting fixtures. Glass, metal or plastic lighting fixtures can all be produced using these types of environmentally friendly materials. It’s not just enough to use an eco-friendly lighting fixture, however.
When choosing which bulbs to put into your new light fixtures, choose a LED bulb. LED bulbs are 80% more efficient than traditional light bulbs and waste much less energy as heat. You can now find LED bulbs that come in warmer white colors, instead of the blue tones they originally produced.
CFL bulbs are also eco-friendly. CFL stands for “compact fluorescent bulb.” It is a type of bulb that uses only a quarter of the energy a traditional incandescent bulb uses. They also last much longer than traditional bulbs! You will save time and money by using CFL bulbs.
Why is Eco-Friendly Lighting Important?
Traditional incandescent light bulbs of the past waste most of their energy on heat production. In fact, only five to ten percent of the energy an incandescent bulb consumes is used to make light! This is not acceptable! They also typically run out of energy much faster than a CFL or LED bulb. Purchasing eco-friendly lighting allows you to lower your carbon footprint and reduces your contribution to garbage dumps and landfills. CFL and LED bulbs are a smart choice.
